Australian actress Teresa Palmer has opened up about the “wasted” years she spent obsessing about her body image and being overly controlling about her diet.

Expecting her first child to her fiancé, US actor/director Mark Webber, in February, the Warm Bodies star says her pregnancy has helped her to move past the negative body image issues that formerly ruled her life.

“A few years ago I was exercising so much, and I just wasn’t nourishing my body in the right way,” Palmer, 27, reveals in WHO magazine’s Body Issue, out now. “I used to be incredibly militant about the food that I ate. I looked great on the outside but I wasn’t healthy on the inside. To think that three years ago I was in this place where I was so skinny that I couldn’t have gotten pregnant if I tried.”

While she concedes shifting her thinking and habits was “challenging,” Palmer is now reveling in her newfound curves and healthier attitude, happily showing off her burgeoning baby bump in WHO’s exclusive images. “I just had my five month scan and I could see my baby moving around,” she says. “I felt so proud that my body is growing this healthy human being.”

Palmer—who is currently based in Perth filming the thriller Kill Me Three Times opposite Bryan Brown and Callan Mulvey—believes women need to be kinder to themselves when it comes to their bodies. “We need to be celebrating our bodies more,” she says. “I want to lead by example and encourage others to let go of that obsessiveness.”

Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) and Luke Hemsworth – brother to Chris and Liam – are the latest Aussies to round out the cast of Down Under crime thriller Kill Me Three Times. At the helm is Kriv Stenders, whose 2011 hit Red Dog won numerous awards and was the top-grossing Aussie film of that year. Simon Pegg, Sullivan Stapleton (300), Alice Braga, Bryan Brown, and Callan Mulvey fill out the ensemble pic in which a singer in a surf town (Braga) is the link between three tales of murder, blackmail, and revenge. Pegg plays an assassin hired by the singer’s husband (Mulvey); Stapleton is a gambling addict trying to pay off his debts through a life insurance scam masterminded by Palmer’s small town Lady Macbeth. Brown is a corrupt cop and Hemsworth plays a surfer trying to save Braga from her would-be killer. James McFarland penned the script. Palmer is repped by WME and Management 360. Hemsworth is repped by ROAR and Mark Morrissey and Associates in Australia. Filming begins this week in Perth and Western Australia.

Herald Sun – If you’ve ever wondered what a Hollywood starlet would wear on Melbourne Cup day, you’ll soon have a chance to find out.

Mum-to-be Teresa Palmer will jet back into Adelaide to appear as a special guest at the Little Heroes Melbourne Cup lunch at the National Wine Centre on November 5.

But she won’t be sipping any celebratory champagne – the actress recently announced her pregnancy to film director fiance Mark Webber.

Last week she was snapped hitting the shops with mother Paula Sanders in LA while tweeting for suggestions for “a very earthy, organic, hippie baby clothing line.”

During a visit here earlier in the year both Teresa and Mark talked about their desire to grow their family and a possible move back to Adelaide.

Typecasting has stalled many a career, but it won’t be a problem for Teresa Palmer, whose greatest gift may be that she is so startlingly natural wherever she’s planted. This was most evident in her hit from earlier this year, Warm Bodies, in which she’s a tough-cookie survivor, post-zombie apocalypse, in love with a guy with one major drawback — he’s one of the undead. Even at a glance — in such unalike pictures as the Adam Sandler comedy Bedtime Stories; or Take Me Home Tonight, opposite Topher Grace; or the extraterrestrial fantasy I Am Number Four — the romance, action and humor are anchored because Palmer is so deeply down-to-earth.

Although she’s more in demand than ever – with roles in Love and Honor, a Vietnam-era drama costarring Liam Hemsworth, Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups, with Christian Bale; again opposite Hemsworth in the thriller Cut Bank; and in Parts Per Billion, an unsettling drama costarring Gena Rowlands – the driven Aussie is keen to generate her own projects, too. They include Track Town, which she co-wrote with costar Tahyna Tozzi, set to film in 2014. More immediately, she is collaborating on The Ever After with her fiancé, director Mark Webber.

So many Australians have succeeded here in Hollywood. Even so, it’s a huge risk to come all this way. What made you decide to try? Honestly, I had no plan of attack. I fell into acting. I was taking any opportunity that came my way. One came when I was in Cannes [in 2006] with 2:37, my first big film. American casting directors had seen it at the festival and wanted me to audition. My manager encouraged me. I landed in Los Angeles for what I thought would be a couple of weeks — quite excited by this new adventure — then booked two of the roles I tried out for. It was decided for me, I guess. My life unfolded in that way. I was cast in American movies.
